Message from the Department Head

Dear Students,

Our department, which began its undergraduate education in 2012, expanded to include graduate studies in 2015. Currently, we continue our educational activities with 405 undergraduate and 34 graduate students. With a core faculty of 8 academicians, we provide comprehensive support to our students. In accordance with the requirements of an interdisciplinary program, we also receive academic support from experts in the fields of electronics, mechanical, materials, and computer engineering, as well as medicine and basic sciences. Furthermore, our students have the opportunity to earn a dual degree through our active Double Major Programs in Electrical and Electrical-Electronics Engineering. Additionally, we offer our students the chance to pursue their education at various universities across Europe via the Erasmus Program and within Türkiye through the Farabi Program.

With the opening of our faculty’s new laboratory building, our students’ laboratory facilities and practical training opportunities have been significantly enhanced, and we continue to expand these efforts. To prepare our students for professional life, we conduct projects and activities in cooperation with local healthcare institutions. Through the support given to the Biomedical Engineering Club, we also encourage our students’ active participation in field-related activities.

Biomedical Engineering forms a vital link and bridge between engineering and medical sciences. In this context, one of our primary goals is to provide our students with comprehensive training in the design, production, operation, maintenance, repair, and calibration of medical devices, systems, and life-support machines. Thanks to this education, our graduates will be equipped to hold high-level positions both in hospitals and in companies providing services in medical device production, sales, maintenance, and repair. Considering that a vast majority of medical devices used in our country are imported, the need for Biomedical Engineers will inevitably increase to reduce foreign dependency.

Our department produced its first graduates at the end of 2016. Our graduates, who can serve in Biomedical and Clinical Engineering units in hospitals, will improve medical device management, ensuring more efficient healthcare services and providing more effective, high-quality care to a larger number of patients using the same infrastructure. Furthermore, it should be noted that our graduates undertake a significant responsibility in overcoming the shortage of qualified human resources needed in the production and R&D processes of medical devices in our country.

I wish our students a happy and peaceful academic life.
